These rare earrings are vintage butterfly wing screw-back earrings, likely dating from the Art Deco period (1920s) through the 1960s. They are identified by their unique construction, where a hand-painted scene (in this case, a pine tree and moon/sun) is set over the iridescent blue wing of a South American Morpho butterfly.
These pieces were popular souvenirs, particularly after British jeweler Thomas L. Mott showcased them at the 1924 British Empire Exhibition. Many were made in England or South America and featured sterling silver settings.
